St Margarets’ Mother’s Union in July

July 31, 2015 by Bethersden Parish Council

St Margaret’s Mother’s Union

By Faith Spooner

Once again the weather rather spoiled our plans in July.  Our meeting was programmed as a garden meeting with strawberry tea, kindle offered by Daphne Dickens.  However, it was a very unsettled forecast and we sadly made the decision to meet indoors at Shirony as usual.

It was a dull, windy day so the decision was justified, although it did not actually rain!

We started with our short prayer session and went through arrangements for the Diocesan Annual Market which is being held at St. Paul’s Church, Canterbury on Saturday 17th October.  As last year we will be running the Toiletries stall, so we will be collecting items for sale.

We also discussed the possibility of once again holding a Craft Sale in Church in November for MU funds.  It was suggested that we make “soft toy” Clangers which seem to be high on young children’s list at present.  Most of remember the first time The Clangers were on children’s TV so we are going to have a go.  Beryl will also be digging up some ideas for those who do not wish to knit.

Members were then delighted to welcome Nathan Wilson, the Christian Schools Worker based at Home wood School.  Nathan has now been doing this job for five years now and the work he is doing with these young people is amazing and very varied.  It was good to hear how successful the job is and get some insight into the future plans. There were questions and discussion and it seemed to be a beneficial afternoon for us all.

Next meeting will be general discussion and planning on Tuesday 11th August at 1.45pm at Shirony
