The Weekend Urgent Care Centre, which was started over 6 months ago as a pilot service operating at weekends 9am-12 in Tenterden, has proved to be a valued additional service to patients and has offered the reassurance of seeing a local GP should an urgent healthcare need arise over the weekend.
There will now be collaboration between 3 neighbouring practices : Ivy Court Surgery in Tenterden, Woodchurch Surgery and Hamstreet Surgery, to extend this level of care to all registered patients – this will also support the sustainability of the service.
From Saturday 6th September onwards the service will be provided at Ivy Court Surgery on a SATURDAY MORNING ONLY and will be provided at Hamstreet Surgery on a SUNDAY MORNING ONLY.
The service will operate exactly as it does now with a walk-in service for patients registered to either of the three surgeries who would otherwise have called 111 or attended A&E, but will be located at Ivy Court on Saturday between 9.00am -1200pm and in Hamstreet on a Sunday morning 9.00am-12.00pm.
There will be a receptionist, a nurse and GP staff who will all be from the three local practices, but may be working outside their own practice. Patients therefore may, for example, be registered at Woodchurch Surgery but see theiryour own GP on a Sunday at Hamstreet surgery.
We aim to continue to offer a high quality service and the reassurance of seeing a Local GP for Urgent Care needs in a Local surgery. In order to maintain the success of the service it will not be possible to deal with routine queries.
The three Practices are also starting to work together to develop innovative new community services for the benefit of all their patients and by collaborating they hope to be able to be more responsive to the particular needs of their patients in this part of Kent.
