During May and June this year, Ashford Borough Council experienced four loads of recycling being rejected due to the level of contamination present from black sacks, food waste, nappies/sanitary waste and other miscellaneous items. In additioion, latest contamination rates sent over by Kent County Council have increased too, with higher levels of food waste, nappies and black bags present.
Therefore, there will be a contamination campaign throughout the month of September. This will involve working with Biffa crews in a joint partnership whilst educating residents.
During collection weeks commencing 2nd and 16th September Biffa crews and council officers will be stickering residents recycling bins if they contain major contamination e.g. black sacks, food and nappies mentioned above. Recycling bins containing these items will NOT be collected.
