BETHERSDEN W.I. by Lyn Robbins
The Monthly Meeting was on Wednesday 1st July, the hottest July day on record but by the time you read this it will be August! Hopefully ‘Operation Stack’ will be over by then. Amongst all the disruption it can cause is the prevention of Speakers getting to their Meetings. So it was for Barbara Stevens who was due to deliver a talk on ‘The Trials and Tribulations of Public Speaking’. Well, she has another one to add to her list now!!
This did present the small problem of what to do for the evening but it was filled admirably by a game of ‘Hoy’, a demonstration of ‘Lawn Darts’ and a Quiz called ‘Who said that?’ The latter was not a game for the hard of hearing but an attribution of famous quotes.
‘Lawn Darts’ could be an additional sporting opportunity offered by the Bethersden WI but unfortunately only two people can play at a time and judging by the demonstration the spectators would definitely have to keep their distance for safety reasons! However, the rival sporting event of the year, ‘Bat and Trap’ is on schedule for Monday 3rd August at 6.30 pm and unlimited participants are welcomed to that.
£104.70 was raised from the sale of cakes at Street Cottage on 6th June so many thanks are in order to everyone who contributed.
The next Craft Day will not be until Saturday 19th September but in the meantime members have been asked if they would like to make some bunting to decorate WI events.
The next meeting is on Wednesday 5th August when we hope to hear from George Taylor about ‘Broadway- Ten Special Years 1943-1953’ and the colour for the Competition is TANGERINE.
We look forward to seeing you.
